Do you remember the last wedding receptions you went too? I bet you remember what the wedding colors are don't you? Also what food did they have? You probably don't remember any of these but I bet you remember dancing to your favorite song!

What is most important at the wedding reception? The most important selection you can make is your choice of entertainment. Now what type of party are you looking for an elegant atmosphere or a party atmosphere? If you find the right DJ he will be able to incorporate bother elegant and party so your wedding doesn't become tacky.

The Job of a DJ is to not only play music but make sure everything is timely so there is no down time which causes people to leave. The DJ must also be able to please all the guests, remember if your guests are having a good time you will be having a good time, so during the beginning of the night the DJ may play oldies which may not be your favorite to help please the older crowd.

One good idea at a wedding reception is to keep the pictures to a mininum, make sure the photographer understands that you want time to relax and enjoy your evening. Nothing is worse then having to break up the whole evening just to take a few pictures.

Ask the DJ about what he does to help get the crowd moving. A good dj will usually have a couple of techniques that he has used in the past and will be more then willing to share with you. What you do not want is a dj that just plays songs and expects people to dance. The dj must also know a variety of music make sure he or she knows all types from oldies to modern because there will be all ages at your event.

A good idea at a wedding is to try to make people not bring their kids. Kids are a big distraction and can ruin the atmosphere. In one case I was at an event and this child got his tie clip stuck in his finger, well needless to say the night was over. Also children cause people to leave earlier so instead of haveing all the younger crowd at the end of the night they will all have to go home because of their children.

Now on to the equipment, if you ask the DJ what brands he is using and he lists JBL, Peavey, Numark, Stanton, and QSC and, phonic he is using quality equipment. Also ask the DJ if he is running a crossover and a bi-amped system with four speakers, if he says yes he knows his equipment.

Lighting at a wedding reception is very important, it can set an elegant mood during the first dances at the beginning, and it can set a party atmosphere at the end of the night. Lights are good because they distract the attention of the guests from the dancers.
